Yemen Through Luke's Eyes

  • Key Center Public Library (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Please join us for a one month-long gallery of Luke’s work at Key Peninsula library, from February 3rd to February 29th. A reception will take place on Saturday, February 15th from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. These pieces reflect a snapshot of Luke’s life and work while he lived in Yemen as a photojournalist in the midst of the Arab Spring. Luke was considered a dear friend and family to the myriad locals he had the privilege of knowing, and we’re grateful to provide just a glimpse of who Luke was, what he saw and how he impacted countless lives through a beautifully intelligent and curious lens.

A Day in the Life of Yemen: A Luke Somers Retrospective

On April 29th through May 1st, 2017, mom and I held a retrospective exhibition of a collection of Luke’s work. It was a wonderful turnout in this brief 3-day span. It was a celebration of sorts, and a time of connection and remembrance. Included at the exhibition were guest speakers, Yemeni refreshments, Yemeni music, a slideshow and a collection of 40+ photographs by Luke. It was an experienced that propelled us to engage more with our communities both near and far, and we hope to do something like this again when the time is right. Thank you to all of those who donated and/or attended to make this event possible.
